Beginning Sewing – What do I need to buy?
I just started a sewing class this weekend decided to buy a sewing machine. I ordered a Brother CS6000t b / c I have a really good deal for them from Overstock. I also ordered some sewing pounds (such as sewing for dummies) and some patterns. In my class we are making a purse. I wanted to try a few cute summer skirts on my own, and then perhaps to some holiday decorations. My question is, how do I know what I need other accessories for my machine, like other feet, needles, etc.?
The only things I take, the probably not mentioned in your supply sheet, a good seam ripper (I like had handled the white jobbies from Clover), and ordered a packet of size sewing machine needle, Universal point. This is because the size of the needle is determined by the fabric of the weave and thickness, and breaking of needles is really common for beginners. Most machines with at least one "general purpose" foot and a zipper foot, often a buttonhole. I would be all three of these with me. Also, make sure You have scissors for clipping threads (your seam ripper will do in a pinch, though!) Needles break most often, because you're pushing or pulling the fabric instead of the feed Dogs do the work. The aircraft are to mass transport, while the person holding the fabric. (I make my beginner sewing curvy lines on paper, and they are only allowed their right and left index fingers touched the paper – it does surprise, it is used! Paper is stiffer than substance and you are not the most of the fighting a piece of clothing – as with a garment or quilt, you may need to use several fingers, but not a Vulcan Death Grip on the fabric.)
