How do I find out what type of sewing cabinet sewing machine will fit my application?
Recently I found a great deal on an older (1960's) Sewing cabinet at a thrift store (in excellent shape with solid wood drawers!). It did not come with a machine, but it seems to be in a position to Most machines accept one. So I changed it and brought it home to take over in the hope of the computer I'm out in a previous cabinet. However, there was I know that the older machine (1950's?) will not fit in my new cabinet. (It was mounted differently and too short.) I intend to sell my old one and Cabinet to find at a yard sale and want to see what kind of machine that I seek to work with my new Cabinet must. Rather than a place for a standard rectangular Size has it's more like an "L". The machines I've seen in stores do not fit recently. I love the closet and want to match the right machine I can find it for my sewing hobby use. Any help would be great on this. Thank you!
I bought an older (probably 80's) Solid wood cabinet and wanted to adapt it to my new machine. It was a spring-loaded manual elevator in it. My BF got the old lift and the base platform. He put in an air-bridge by Rockler Woodworking Supply (like those in the Horn cabinets you can buy) and made a square platform for the machine to sit on. Then I ordered an acrylic insert, around the bed of my machine from http://www.dreamworld-inc.com/ that perfectly. The man at Dreamworld was very helpful when you measure the opening in your closet, maybe they could tell you what your cabinet maker or how to adapt it for what you want to machine. Good Luck!
