Would it be OK to make an 8 ft high wall using the skinney (3.9 inch depth) concrete blocks?
not sure if 8 feet is too high to use the 3.9 inch blocks and that maybe i would need the 8 inch depth blocks so the wall would be strong enough. the project is just to make a small area for my motorcycle
If you are just dry stacking them to build the wall and building a flat wall, I don’t want to be there when the wind blows. If you are going to mortar them(cement) them into position that would be more stable but still not indestructible. I would tend to put some 4 ft lengths of Re- bar into the ground like stakes. Hopefully you are doing this on a concrete surface. If so, you got to drill some holes into the concrete to accept the3/4″ bar then place your blocks over the rebar so that the centre hole of the block”I am assuming there is a centre hole between the flat outsides” is in between the two sides. In case of a break or someone slamming into it with a car it won’t cave in or out..
Then start laying block and when you got like about a foot to go of rebar, tiewire on another length on the last foot as an overlap – tie it twice at least one high one low -and continue upward and do again if you got to make it 8 feet(as 2 lengths will only give you 6 feet because of the overlap.
You don’t need to fill them with concrete. That is a waste of concrete and time and money.
You can ask all these questions where you buy the blocks or where they sell blocks and they can show you different arrangements other than a flat wall.
